Every year, Terraneo's project designers study furniture trends and design new flat-packed furniture that combine aesthetic beauty and customer needs, to be offered in DIY shops and retailers around the world.
We had already seen some trends for 2022 during the Milan Design Week, which was held last September in the famous Italian city known worldwide for being at the forefront of design and architecture.
Simplicity, Nature and Sustainability are key words that have been confirmed in the 2022 furnishing trends and which, we at Terraneo, have studied and included in our new Catalogue, soon to be available.
Let's take a look at the 4 trends we have identified and will continue to work in order to offer DIY stores practical, functional and trend-setting furniture.
1. Natural and recycled materials
The themes of sustainability and circularity have also taken hold in the furniture sector and we find this trend in different forms.
- Firstly, customers entering a DIY store selling home furnishings expect to see the furniture assembled and contextualised within the rooms of the house, perfectly integrated with the environment and combined with natural elements, such as plants and flowers. This is because today there is an ever increasing need to be in contact with nature.
- Secondly, today people increasingly prefer to buy products made from recycled materials and manufactured using environmentally friendly product cycles.
Terraneo company has been working for more than 10 years on sustainable aspects of its production. We have developed eco-friendly processing cycles that aim to reduce waste and emissions, we use packaging made from recycled cardboard and, at the customer’s request, we can manufacture flat-packed furniture with recycled panels made of FSC®-certified wood, which come from forests whose management is responsible and controlled.
2. Light patterns
In addition to preferring products that evoke nature, such as wood, cotton, glass and stone, another furnishing trend for 2022 concerns texture that recall nature and the colours of the Earth.
Favourite furniture pattern include beige for the living room, concrete for the night area, but also blue and light blue, perfect in contrast to white and natural wood colours.
All Terraneo flat-packed furniture is made from wood and are available in a wide range of high-definition 3D textures that evoke the natural wood colours: white, concrete, oak in different nuances and, since last year, we have also introduced the Leizu texture in our product catalogue, a damask finish featuring elegant decorative motifs on a shaded blue background, very much loved by customers.
3. DIY for the home
In recent years, people have been devoting more and more time to their homes and confirming their passion for DIY: from bricolage to furniture assembly, from plumbing to electrical work, up to the painting of the walls. In addition, an interesting fact concerns Generation Z, i.e. young people aged between 18 and 24 who, more and more often, have the hobby of DIY.
Therefore, flat-packed furniture is increasingly being chosen by customers for its versatility of use, customization, cost-effectiveness and because it allows people to bring their personal skills into play.
To support DIY shops and to ease the workload of the store's employees, we provide the end user with a section on our website called MyTerraneo where the user can register and access materials that facilitate furniture assembly: drawings, textual instructions and videos.
4. Minimalism and versatility
In 2022 the home becomes more and more open space, with more light and airy rooms. Furnishings are increasingly minimalist and include versatile furniture that can be quickly adapted to the needs of the moment.
Terraneo furniture is characterized by simple lines and made of chipboard with a minimum thickness of 18 mm, which is robust and durable. One of the advantages of Terraneo flat-packed furniture is their versatility: for example, our convertible tables can become desks, and our consoles in just a few seconds change from being used to empty pockets to being used as a study and workstation.
